yesterday was THE independence day.

june 12, monday. everybody was supposed to be in school or at work, but because it was THE independence day, most of us were at home, watching some tv (maybe even that basketball game where Shaq scored a measly five).

well, THE independence day is not being recognized for what it's worth.

it pisses me off. i sent this message to all of my friends and some acquantances (it helps to be unlimited, lakas ko sa globe) and some of them replied with really really loserly remarks. here is what i remember of the message that i have sent.

happy independence day sayo.-

of course the original text of this was in text language. anyway, some people replied and said, 'hindi, wala lang talagang pasok' and 'cinecelebrate pa ba yon?'

argh! major grrness. is this how we see independence day now? an excuse to ditch office or school? don't we even at least remember how hard it was for those who came before us? how they have suffered under countries? and how hard they have fought for this country to be free?

it's been a hundred and eight years since that day our flag was waved in kawit, cavite. 108 years, compared to some 300 years we were under spain's command, and some 50 more years under other countries.

the numbers here are just what i have remembered from highschool history. i am not sure about it. what i am sure about is that being independent was so precious for the people who went before us. the people who actually fought hard for it. tapos we'll just neglect the single day that we celebrate it.

at least try to show respect. at least try to remember our heroes and their fight for independence.

aryt?
